I admit to having a soft spot for the Irish. Maybe it's the ease with which they combine charm, erudition and homely common sense.
So it was a real pleasure to interview Dee Carri, founder of Torque Management, for a Nimbus podcast just released: Step Off The Compliance Treadmill and Dramatically Improve Performance.
Dee has covered all the bases: she's been a CIO, a Gartner analyst, and a long-time consultant on process excellence, quality and compliance to top clients across Europe. She's also the European editor for BPTrends.
So enjoy that soft Irish lilt but don't miss the underlying message:
in best practice organizations in regulated industries - Pharma, FS, Oil & Gas - total compliance costs typically run at 16% of operating costs.
in similar organizations that do not have an integrated approach to quality, compliance and process management, total compliance costs typically run at 25% of operating costs - and can be close to 30% in some cases.
So the impact on the bottom line of an integrated approach, supported by an enterprise process management platform, are collosal.
As an aside: Dee cracked me up when she mentioned in passing what she calls 'the Don't Mess With Me! button'.
It's what most of us know as the ticked box on an activity in a process, indicating to anyone connected with the process that this activity is linked to a statement set (which usually means to a compliance requirement).
PS on effortless Irish erudition: Diarmuid Barry, President of ServiceFrame and based in Dublin, presenting on an Outsourcing Institute webinar last week, went back to Plato and Athens in the 5th century BC in his discussion of governance in outsourcing. Brilliant.
